AI and the Labor Market

Hi! My name is Nikhil, though I do go by Nik from time to time. I’m a 15 year old from India, who’s spent most of his life in Hong Kong and South India. I’m currently taking A levels, and I aim to pursue Data Science and ML in my future studies and employment.

My hobbies mostly revolve around politics and debating, I do MUN on the side, and I run the Eccentric Podcast with some of my friends where we contrast political opinions on a wide variety of topics. I also dabble in video games though I haven't indulged in a while.

I’m studying artificial intelligence and ML because I believe that it is the subject of the future. The world is moving fast, previously dominating disciplines have been relegated to niche status. I want to be part of the change, I want to secure my future employment and I believe studying and learning AI and ML is an investment in myself 20 years from now.

My experience with AI inspirit was quite odd to tell the truth. My project was to predict lung cancer using chest X rays, and to be quite honest, I didn’t learn as much as I should’ve. I didn’t get enough out of it as I could’ve and I am working hard to improve my situation and gain knowledge. I started my AI career a little late compared to my peers, but I can guarantee that I am actively working towards my goals!

The aim of this blog will to take an in depth look at the AI intelligence job revolution that many people are predicted in the next decade or so. I find this immensely interesting, and I intend to go in depth and share my passion for this through my blogs.

Our civilization has experienced 3 major industrial revolutions till date, and I believe that we are currently in the middle of the fourth. The internet has developed at rapid paces and technology advances in leaps and bounds everyday. Every time humanity has been on the cusp on one of these revolutions, experts have predicted mass unemployment and job market disruption, with thousands of workers being made obsolete. Will it be the same this time? I aim to use historical evidence and other sources to try and reach an answer.

I’m writing for those who are interested in AI’s application in the real world, on the macro scale, the effects on people’s everyday lives. At the end of the day, its just something I find interesting, and I hope to share some of that passion with my readers!
